The clash occurred between supporters of India’s youth led Cockroach movement and police personnel on Monday while they tried to march towards Parliament on demand for the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over alleged examination paper leaks. 

According to AP, The protesters were charged by batons and fired tear gas after they tried to breach security barricades surrounding the protest site in central New Delhi.

According to initial reports, both protesters and security personnel sustained injuries during the confrontation. Authorities have not yet released an official count of those injured. In response to the unrest, mobile internet services in the areas surrounding Jantar Mantar and Parliament are temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.

As of Monday evening, there was no official response from the Ministry of Education regarding the protesters' demand for Pradhan’s resignation.

The protesters included students, professionals, and families with young children carrying their own water and food, expecting a long day, while others waved Indian flags. Police urged protesters to disperse over loudspeakers, as the crowd chanted slogans against the education minister and Modi, AP reported.
