The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has started circulating new Rs 500 banknotes from June 17 after five years. 

A total of 100, 000  notes have been issued with serial numbers ranging from Jha/36 000001 to Ta/83 999999. 

The main feature of this new note is the signature of the newly appointed Governor Bishwanath Poudyal and fiscal year 2082 BS.

The note also includes a grammatical correction from ‘तुरुन्त पाईनेछ’ to ‘तुरुन्त पाईने छ’, (It will be available immediately). 

Similarly, two raised dots have been added to help visually impaired people to identify the currency.

For security, the note is designed with a 3.5mm breadth that changes colors  from red to green when viewed from different angles, with an oval shaped section on the right side of Mt Everest, which looks golden when observed directly, and green if tilted.

Previously, the central bank had released a batch of new notes on December 24,  2015 with the serial number from cha/42 000001 to jha/38 999999. 

However due to official reasons, only notes from cha/37 000001 to jha/38 248000 were  circulated, totaling 248,000 notes.
