The Industrial Zone Management Limited said that they have started disconnecting electricity and water lines from today (June 17) after 10 industrial sectors refused to pay bills. These sectors have been using government land that is worth billions of rupees for a long time.
The Limited issued a notice on June 8 asking them for a regular payment for using land, buildings, electricity and water, including services, within seven days and to clear the outstanding amount. They also released data where 635 industries in 10 industrial sectors across the country were left to pay Rs 884m with actions to be taken if not paid.
Despite issuing the notice with warnings, the sectors didn’t take it seriously and the management committee started cutting the lines. Similarly, more than a dozen industries have faced power cuts.
Accordingly, the lines of Balaju Auto Clinic, Gurans Engineer, Balaju Auto Works and RK Plastic in Balaju Industrial Area, Anuj Metal, Building Material (Bira), Nepalese Handicraft, Saraswati Textile, Himalayan Craft and Bhairavnath Iron operating in Patan Industrial Area have also been cut.
Similarly, the lines of Arman Traders and Love A Restro in Nepalgunj Industrial Area and Shree Annu Food and Snacks Industries operating in Gajendra Narayan Singh Industrial Area have also been cut.
The 151 industries and establishments operating in Balaju Industrial Zone have a maximum amount of Rs 439m. Similarly, 131 industries in Hetauda Industrial Zone have to pay Rs 209m and 94 industries in Patan Industrial Zone have to pay Rs 101m.
Pokhara and Butwal Industrial Zones have medium-level dues, where industries seem to have to pay around Rs 45m. Similarly, industries in the Bhaktapur industrial zone have arrears of Rs 17.1m and industries in the Nepalgunj industrial zone have an arrears of Rs 13.4m.
The industrial zones with comparatively less outstanding amounts are Dharan, Gajendra Narayan Singh (Rajbiraj) and Birendranagar. According to the data, industries in Dharan have arrears of Rs 7.1m, industries in the Gajendra Narayan Singh industrial zone have arrears of Rs 6.3m and industries in Birendranagar have the lowest outstanding amount of Rs 6.5m.
